Many, if not most, aspects of the Russian Revolution are not well understood in the West. First, how many people in the United States know that there was an unsuccessful revolution in Russia in 1905, which involved many of the same characters?
The Communist revolutionaries of that time expected communism to initially take hold in England or Germany, and spread from there. Russia was not their number one plan in the beginning.
It's when the Tsar decded to give Kenensky and his bunch a chance to run the country through a parliamentary system (similar to England), that the opportunity again arose for revolution in Russia.
There was initially some resistance to the Communists, and it took almost 20 years to consolidate their power throughout the country. Most of the revolution took place in three key cities: St. Petersburg, Moscow, and Kiev.
When Stalin finally took power, he purged about one-third of the officers from the military, and began to disarm the public. These two groups posed the only real resistance to the Red Terror that was about to come. Stalin also made extensive use of propaganda, particularly newspapers and radio broadcasts. This was to make sure the whole country was getting the same carefully-prepared information. Of course, the gun confiscation alone was not entirely responsible for the Communists retaining power. They also used the power of the propaganda machine to get people to rat out their neighbors, since everyone was a potential enemy of the state (sound familiar)?
I suggest everyone read "The Gulag Archipelago" by Alexander Solzhenitsyn in order to better understand the process that took place there, and maybe better able to identify it should it be seen elsewhere.
I suggest that the history of the United States, and the extent of the armed populace here would probably turn the tide in the opposite direction of the way it went in Russia. But, the awareness of the propaganda machine is important to be aware of.

Tea Party Resurgence Brewing in Massachusetts
Many residents in
Massachusetts noticed less in their first paycheck of the new year
due to a hike in payroll taxes that came as a result of the
negotiations between congress and the president's “fiscal cliff”
deal. Also, a renewed “assault” on the Second Amendment were
among a couple of the many topics discussed at the state-wide tea
party leadership meeting hosted by the Worcester Tea Party in
Worcester last night.
A renewed commitment
to the core values that made the start of the Tea Party movement
great, such as fiscal responsibility, constitutionally limited
government, and support of the free market system was emphasized at
the start of the meeting, among the newly re-formed state-wide
coalition.
Some of the many Tea
Party groups represented were from as far as Cape Cod, Greater
Boston, Greater Springfield and of course Worcester. In addition,
there were many more representatives from other independently run
groups in the state. They discussed a plan “beyond rallies” which
included recruitment efforts and reaching out to like minded
coalition groups in Massachusetts and beyond. “We want to
re-energize the Tea Party movement here in Massachusetts,” said
Matt O'Brien from the Worcester Tea Party.

The groups' intention is to chart a course for the long term, with the ultimate goal to shrink our government to a level that is responsive and accountable to the people but one that can still handle the many needs of our state and country's citizens, and is also within the confines of the constitutions and the will of the people which our government claims to represent.
If you consider
yourself a leader, a visionary, possess a talent that you are willing
to contribute, or just want to be a part, this is your open
invitation to our upcoming meetings. If your interested, Please contact Matt O'Brien @ 978-423-5747 for more
information.
